Meditation for Competition, Athletes – How to Meditate for Beginners – BEXLIFE


Hey guys. It’s Bex here and welcome to another
video in my series You Have Four Minutes for Meditation. Today’s meditation is for all my athlete friends
out there getting ready for competition, race day or any big event that you’re preparing
for. I love getting all your comments and requests
on my YouTube videos and this one is a special request from a follower named Scott who also
happens to be a coach of kids who are getting ready for competition. So I want to offer you a meditation that’s
going to put you at ease if you’re preparing for a big day and it’s going to let you know
that you have everything you need for success. Let’s get started by finding our easy seat.
Meditation is meant to be easy even if you’re a beginner. So I want you to be comfortable
wherever you are. You can sit. You can lie down. You could be standing if you want to
but I prefer to sit cross-legged on the floor on a pillow. You can have your hands downturned
or upturned to receive the energy around you, whatever is comfortable. You can even try
something called a mudra where you connect your fingers in different positions. Breathing and concentration are super important
in sports, competition and also in meditation. So I want you to pay attention to your breath
during this entire meditation. I also want your posture to be perfect. So start by sitting
up nice and tall, inhaling your shoulders up to your ears and exhaling your shoulder
blades down in your spine. Your head should be pointing up towards the
ceiling and your chin should be parallel to the floor. Now we’re ready to get started. Close your eyes and start paying attention
to what your breath is doing. This is where the concentration and attention come in. Don’t worry if it’s very fast. Don’t try to
lengthen or deepen it if it’s not there. Just be with your breath in this moment. Listen
to what your body is telling you. Are you calm? Are you nervous? Just examine this state
of being without judgment and allow your breath to flow naturally. As athletes, you prepare for big events all
the time. Maybe it’s a big race, a competition, a big game. Your abilities are constantly
being tested. All that you’ve done and practiced is finally ready to be shown to the world
and this can be an incredibly nerve-wracking experience. I am here to assure you that everything you’ve
done up until now has not been in vain. You have been dedicated to your craft and your
sport. You are ready for this day. As you breathe in and out, with increasingly longer
easy breaths, I want you to imagine in your head silently or speak out loud the following
mantra. Inhale, I am ready. Exhale, for this day.
Inhale, I am ready. Exhale, for this day. Inhale, I am ready. Exhale, for this day.
Inhale, I am ready. Exhale, for this day. Inhale, I am ready. Exhale, for this day. As you continue to breathe, listen to my offering
of words. Absorb them into your body, into your spirit. Remember to keep your breaths
easy and long. I am prepared. I am ready. I am strong. I
have done the work. I am ready. I have done the work. I am strong. I am prepared. I am
ready. I have done the work. This day is mine. I am prepared. I am strong. I am ready. This
day is mine. I am prepared. All that you have done up until now has been
glorious work that has readied you for this day. You are ready to show the world how strong
and capable and talented you are. Take three more deep breaths with me. Inhale, exhale,
inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, open your eyes. And you’re done! You are ready. You are prepared.
You are strong. You are talented. You are capable. You are ready to kick this day’s

  4. My counselor recommended your videos to me, really mainly the worry and anxiety meditation, and I loved that one so much that I've been trying to do a meditation with your videos each day. They've been really helpful in my daily practice of trying to be more present and less anxious. I've been able to find one that fits the specific challenges I'm going to face that day, and I wanted to thank you for putting them together. Specifically this one I chose to do this evening because I have a job interview tomorrow and have not been feeling confident or prepared for it. This was exactly what I needed and I really appreciate the time you put into these videos. I never thought of myself as someone who would enjoy mediation but it has really been helping my anxiety.   5. Really enjoyed this meditation. Performed in my car on lunch break. I will take this mantra into my race tomorrow. I just happened to stumble on this video while trying to rid myself of pre-race jitters. Just wondering is you had any more that might help to ignite some training intensity especially in the area of endurance sports. I really am looking for something that will help later in the later miles of the race. Again really enjoyed the video. Seems to be a lack of quality vids out there. hint*hint
