For Unanswered Prayers… | Pastor Steven Furtick

if I’m constantly telling myself the
story that people don’t appreciate me I invest in people and they don’t give
anything back they don’t notice me all of that really gets in your heart
and you talk about keeping you from limiting your potential it’ll keep you
from wanting to connect with anyone because you’ll be like well what’s the
point everybody lets me down no not everybody lets you down
three people let you down and they didn’t even really let you down it was
just time for just friendship to be over with and you got to recategorize that
you know what and yeah some people do hurt us and some people do let us
down but we just got to be very careful how we log the edit I think before you
put it to print in your heart because I always thought that about certain Bible
stories Jonah I always thought that Jonah was so weird and not
Jonah the person Jonah the book because it goes a couple different times Mahna
Mahna that’s the Hebrew word and it’s the same where we get manna when the
manna fell from heaven for the Israelites and it means provision right
so it’s like they threw Jonah off the ship
the Lord provided a whale or a fish it doesn’t say whale mahna
that’s the word for provided Jonah preaches dah dah dah they repent Jonah
went outside the sun’s beating the Lord provided a leaf plant to shade Jonah’s
head mahna third times the weird one then the Lord mahna a worm to eat the
plant and I preached a message one time called what about the worm because it’s
easy to recognize that the whale was God’s provision so Jonah didn’t drown
it’s easy to recognize that the leaf was God’s provision because it kept Jonah’s
head from being scorched but when the worm ate the thing that God provided so
now God provided something to destroy something that he just provided and it’s
the same word mahna and I always thought that was
kind of interesting the insight God gave me was Jonah wasn’t writing in his diary
the book of Jonah isn’t Jonah saying and then God now God is providing me a worm
it was somebody looking back on Jonah’s life that was chronicling it and they
saw oh it was actually God that sent the worm so Jonah wouldn’t stay out the
gates of the city because he would have been out of his assignment so God had to
get him so that’s stuff you can’t see right now or maybe this year but if you
go into it assuming this is provision so manna in the Old Testament means when
they said it it was what is it because they couldn’t identify the food because
it didn’t look like what they used to eat because when God provides for you he
provides something for you in a form that you hadn’t seen before and at
first you don’t recognize it as provision you never do it looks
confusing you don’t like it they wanted quail they complained about
it but it was manna so they were asking the question what is it and it also
means what it is it is what it is and so you go through life like that and you go
like I know what this is this is provision I just don’t know how yet I
know what this is this is a part of the story God’s telling and that gives you a
tremendous freedom but if you’re writing it while it’s happening you won’t call
it provision you won’t call it mahna you won’t call it a blessing and neither did
Jonah he was so mad at that worm but somebody writing it some period of time
later was like same God that sent that whale sent that worm and then you look
back on your life that’s where like Garth Brooks used to sing God’s greatest
gifts are unanswered prayers you know that’s a great you ever heard that one
the chorus is sometimes I think God I’ll play it I don’t remember it all the way it’s like for unanswered prayers remember when
you’re talking to the man upstairs whats next because he don’t answer don’t
mean he don’t care son of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers I can’t believe
y’all know that song but it’s like the whale and the worm you’re like oh my god
I’m gonna drown here’s a whale thank you lord and he prays some the valuable but
the worm – the worm – and I’m not saying that I I always respond that way in the
moment but I have you know learned that the wisdom of God is greater than human
wisdom I’m learning that day by day I’m trying to trust that more and where I
think I could get really good is if I can call it provision even before I know
how how it’s ultimately gonna play out and I don’t need to like see it later to
be able to appreciate it but it takes a long time to get there and I’m not
saying we should thank God for people people in the room who were sexually
abused and people in the room who are verbally and mentally abused I’m not
saying to thank God for any of any of that – thank God for any any type of
abuse there is some power in looking at everything that’s happened in your life
and being like God’s gonna use this – and that’s what I’m saying it’s like
this – this – and you’ve heard it preached a million ways like you
remember so Peters like don’t go to the cross what does Jesus say get behind me
Satan so then Judas sells them for thirty pieces of silver and what does
Jesus call him do you know this that’s gonna change your life friend now maybe
it’s just coincidental but kind of what was operating through Judas what Jesus
saw the value even in that and that’s the worst betrayal and so if
I’m gonna sit here and get mad because you know somebody used me or something
like that I’m always gonna be limited it’s natural it’s human it’s okay to be
angry about that stuff but if you dwell in it oh my god
opportunities you thought you should have got that somebody else got it will
it will destroy it’ll take your joy you start operating from the wrong place
you’ll get a weird edge to you you’ll ruin the next opportunity because you’re
still mad about the last one just don’t do that like give that stuff to God hey

  1. Thank you God for that message form Pastor Steven Furtiick thank you God for giving me the opportunity to have a open mind and a kind and a forgive heart to Love myself so i can love other. Thank you for the gift you gave me God I know we all are sinners and nobody's perfect 💜🙏🇺🇸

  2. Wauuuu and I say Amen to that🙏🏽 I will continue to give all things to God🙌🏽🙏🏽 Bless you Pastor Steven

  3. Can someone explain to me why at the very end of the video he says “oh my G*D”? Isn’t that raiding the lords name in vain??????

  4. Oh… This is good! God uses him in such a huge way!! " Completely Amazed" ☝️💓

  5. Am in a deep depression u guys I just need u to stand with me in prayer. MA mum on 8/4/2019 in morning went missing we are searching for her everywhere but it is in pain ….i op God I trust will do best for us as a family

  6. Awesome teaching. I am guilty of feeling like people only contact, check on me, when they need something from me. I don't get angry, it hurts my heart. But I then begin to pray for that person/those people, for God to open their eyes, so that they might see how they are, not just treating me like that, but others as well. Thank You for your ministry, teaching, and explanations of God's Word. May God continue to bless you 🙌🙌 🙌❤️

  7. I'm honestly going through something so hard right now and this has helped me

  8. Sadly sometimes unanswered prayers are someone else’s problem.

  9. I can testify to God using pain ans shame and turning into a ministry. I was sexualy abused and raped for 11 years and thought I was only an object. God brought me to the truth of His grace and mercy and cleansed me of shame and hurt and He showed me I am special. I could use my misery and minister to young ladies about the power of saying NO. The right to say NO. And they are worth more than humans on earth can put in words.

  10. Might I assume this is a clip from a longer teaching on this subject? Then where can I find "the rest of the story"?

  11. Was just studying Numbers 14:24 a couple of nights ago because I feel God has blessed me with the Caleb spirit in the Bible and I’m not just saying that because my parents just liked the name, my dad has been preaching since he was 17 and my dad was reading in the Bible about Caleb before I was born and felt convicted that I should be named Caleb and was later confirmed by my granny too that she felt the same and I was studying in depth of that verse a few nights back and I also recently just started watching Stevens videos and he posted on Instagram this morning with the caption of Numbers 14:24 and there’s no other way then to say that is God claiming me and letting me know my blessing to be gifted with the Caleb spirit. And you don’t have to have the name to have the “Caleb spirit” I don’t believe there’s something so special about the name but I believe God births people not named Caleb with the same type spirit also

  12. This message came while I was drying off after taking a shower on Saturday April 6, 2019 at around 3:30 in the afternoon (this might not be exactly word for word, but it's close). Here's what came:

"The reason so many Christians are flocking to these false teachers and false prophets and other assorted teachers and preachers on YouTube is because they're hungry spiritually. And because what the teachers and prophets are teaching is devoid of the anointing of the Holy Spirit, their teachings are empty spiritually, so that when people listen to them it gives them a full feeling for a moment, but then not long afterward they're hungry again, so they run back for another feed. And this goes on and on. And they think that what they're doing is something good for themselves spiritually, when in fact the opposite is the truth."

This in turn reminded me of something the Lord told my old mentor nearly thirty years ago, which was that the reason so many Christians are moving from church to church is because the sheep are hungry and can't find food. I'm pretty sure the Lord told him that back in the late 80's. Just now I had a remembrance of this verse of scripture in which the Lord told the prophet Jeremiah:

"My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace." (Jeremiah 50:6, King James Version).

Back during the mid-90's outpouring of the Holy Spirit the Lord gave a prophecy in which he said that when the outpouring ended that the enemy was poised to retaliate against the outpouring by raising up the biggest onslaught of religious activity in the history of the Lord's Church (e.g. the YouTube religionists).

He said therefore that what he wanted for Christians was for them not to be doing anything religion-wise, but to stay home and learn to hear the Holy Spirit speaking to them, and to develop a personal relationship with him in the quietness at home. He said that meant no going to church, no going to conferences, no running after teachers, and no getting involved in any religious 'good works' agendas. There were several verses of scripture that accompanied the prophecy, which are these:

"For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved: in in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not." (Isaiah 30:15, King James Version).

"Be still and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10).

"And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you." (1 Thessalonians 4:11).

"Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." (Hebrews 4:11).

Back in June of 1995 I heard one of the Christian prophets speak this message, and toward the end of it he reemphasized that the Lord wanted for his people to forego doing anything religion-wise, and to stay home and develop a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit in the quietness at home. I think the reason he was so emphatic about it was because he knew that the Lord regarded it as a very important move against the coming religious onslaught.

There are a couple of other verses of scripture that support this message, and which have to do with identifying the false teachers and false prophets who are parasites on the body of Christ, which are these:

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain." (James 1:26).

"These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." (1 John 2:26-27).

I think it's worth mentioning that the Apostle James was one of the Lord's younger brothers and was regarded as having the preeminent authority among the Apostles, also that the Apostle John was the Lord's best friend.

In the above verse the Apostle John plainly states that Christians who have the anointing of the Holy Spirit don't need teachers, yet most Christians ignore it and go ahead and heap to themselves teachers anyway (per 2 Tim. 4:3-4), mostly because they're lazy spiritually and want for someone else to do for them what they should be doing for themselves. It's really very sad.

Furthermore, not only do these presumptuous teachers and so-called 'prophets' not bridle their tongues, they do the opposite and allow themselves to be used as mouthpieces by religious spirits who drive them and drive them to never shut up. And by allowing themselves to be used that way by the demons they become parasites who end up leeching on the body of Christ, and are largely responsible for the current spiritual stagnation of the body of Christ, especially in America (you can tell by reading the comments people post throwing roses at the false teachers and false prophets that they are devoid of spiritual discernment).

These teachers, preachers, and so-called 'prophets' on YouTube exemplify King Solomon's statement that a fool's voice is known by multitude of words. (Eccl. 5:3), as well as his statement: "The horseleach has two daughters crying, give give." (Proverbs 30:15), ("Donate, donate, donate, donate, donate," etc., etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum). They should all shut up and go get real jobs like normal people do (if they had the anointing of the Holy Spirit to have genuine love in their hearts for their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ that's exactly what they'd do).

I think it would be appropriate to close with this famous quote by Carl Sandburg:

"I won't take my religion from any man who never works except with his mouth, and never cherishes any memory except the face of the woman on the American silver dollar."

  13. This is great. Thank you, Pastor! And I knew that song!! I can’t believe they didn’t either lol. I was like them though in that I knew what Jesus called Peter but didn’t know what he called Judas. So interesting.

  14. @0:59 mahna mahna …. Doot do dah do do …. mahna mahna …. Doot do dah do …… mahna mahna …. Doot do dah do do dah do do dah do do dah do do …..

Ya gotta love it that the Muppets were really being a blessing to us in music. I just had to post this when Pastor Steven mentioned it. LoL

  15. Been sick for 4 years off and on, Everytime think getting better, another obstacle, don't give up !

  16. I listen to many different pastors, I often see them during the day trying to listen to music and be like: I’ll watch that before I go to bed. It is always about something relevant in my life. It’s amazing, how god uses people to speak through.

  18. Funnily I asked God about 2 hours ago (when I was in the office) that I needed a word to understand how He loved me for a really long period when He didn’t give me something and put me in a (perceived) state of need for so long.
I come back home for lunch and open YouTube at His prompt (not a habit) and this video was first on my recommended list.
Didn’t even Google anything in regards to this so I don’t even know how YouTube knew.
God seems to always use my YouTube recommendations these days – and Furtick!
Thank you for your faithfulness, Pastor!
(And also your guitar playing and singing :D)

  19. How is a dead child a gift? Or a rape that could’ve been prevented? (Unanswered prayers)

  20. Thankyou Pastor..It is a nugget of wisdom that helped and comforted me in this season of my life..Blessings!

  21. Pastor Steven I love the song you played on your guitar. It's heart touching and your voice is really blessed . Your preaching capability is incredible . God bless all of us with wisdom and may our faith increases more and more amen

  22. woooooahhh!! way back yesterday i was crying about this last night!!! thank god!!!! these words really refresh me!!!

  23. Thank you Pastor Steven! A very timely message to me and to what our family is going through at this moment.

  24. God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. Amen 🙏🙌

  25. God is always speaking something new or giving new revelation thru you to so many of us when we are clueless of what's happening in our lives. God bless you abundantly.

  26. I'm using my wife's account because I notice I'm stalked by people whenever I do anything that comes from me personally.

Steven I really feel on the verge of suicide.
I have no faith in God, I don't understand God, I don't want to be alive to doubt and grieve and feel what I feel cause I'll tell you what I feel

I feel God enjoys my suffering, I feel like existence is suffering and everything is a illusion set up for evil and disappointment.

    I pray, I pray, I pray, I pray, I pray, I pray, I pray, I pray

And all I get is nothing. I can list all the bad things that happen but no human could understand or help the way a God could, and my head hurts, I want the pain of living to go away, I'm tired and I want to escape. I pray every single day for God to kill me and I am still here, but it's ok if everyday I suffer.

I'm tired, I am too fearful to kill myself but too fearful to live so I just wait patiently for God to do Something and nothing ever happens.

  27. Jesus said, “BEWARE of the yeast of the Pharisee’s”, they know the Bible , they use long prayers and many lofty words, they want to be seen, and dress fancy, entertainers , but they won’t lift a finger to help, they sit in the best seats , and want everyone to see how godly they are. Hyprocrites who talk too much and burden God’s people and they don’t live what they preach – BEWARE of the yeast ! I’ve confessed to God I’m a hyprocrite that’s why I don’t talk too much cause I’m a sinner and people need help, not another lofty sermon with fancy spiritual big words fake smiles , life is not smooth, it’s full of troubles -come down from the stage , give to the poor, help orphans , and widows , seems like people get paid a lot of money to talk , and entertain , Jesus said he will send the helper the Holy Spirit to teach us and comfort us, may his will be done

  28. A year ago i found your channel, when my life i felt was at the darkest point. My 11 year old daughter karma was dieing from cancer. One of your messages popped up. And since then your messages speak to me every day. Since my daughter death ive realized my true purpose and the true meaning of my life. Thank you for putting your teachings into words that i can relate to.. #cruiseforkarma #forever11

  29. Wow I have been watching mainly newer ones. I literally was walking my pet bunny. Got to thinking about saving a baby wild cotton tail rabbit. Long story short I saved him but a cat ended up getting it.😢 Which comes back to the Q: Why will God allow something to happen to then take it?
Pretty cool I just happens to look for a diff video.
    God is great☝

  30. Yes, God is in unanswered prayers and i love that song.. thanks for singing a little of it.

  31. As of now I can say I’m thankful for unanswered prayers because God’s wisdom truly knows best for me even though I don’t understand. I thought my prayers were according to His Word but more so it’s what’s according to His will.
